Raised In Cotton Vintage Rentals and Event Styling

Leading a creative lifestyle means that over the years I have had the opportunity to style special occasions, events, photo shoots and weddings for customers and friends.  Everything from designing bouquets of flowers, lining mason jar luminaries down a path to decorating entire wedding receptions.  It was all done casually and "on the side" never really considering it anything other than that but always loving the creative process. 

With the trend toward more DIY and budget friendly celebrations, it occurred to me that we could incorporate our shop inventory of vintage props with my fondness for event styling.  So Denise, Phyllis and myself are "officially" announcing our Raised In Cotton Vintage Rentals and Event Styling Services. We are also working on a new website to showcase our wide range of prop rentals and event styling packages. In the mean time, check out some of what we will be offering~

Honest Paint Explained

After the last post, I had a couple of emails asking to explain further what the term "Honest Paint" means. In our Raised In Cotton dictionary,  it refers to a vintage object with an original painted surface. Basically untouched and "as found" condition that can also include several layers of old paint due to the age. Now mind you we're not paint snobs at all and will cover a piece that has great lines for the shop. But for us, the beauty of an old painted country piece found at a local farm sale will never go out of style in our design book.  Maybe its our 25+ years in the Antique business, but we still prefer the authentic color, texture and weathered surface not to mention the visible story that an honest painted piece provides.

Inspiration From A Vintage Valentine

Thank You for all the LOVE on the new site~ sharing a bit of inspiration with all of you just makes my day;) 

Running a vintage business like Raised In Cotton means that we are constantly on the hunt for unique items that fit our design aesthetic. Some of the general guidelines we use when searching is the object has to have great patina, texture and honest color or paint. I bought this Vintage Valentine the other day at a local Antique Show to share with you on how the gorgeous combination just works and can for you~

Look at the stunning robins egg blue color and the aged embossed paper on the old Valentine. I could design an entire room around this combination and I bet you could too.

We're headed out this weekend on a little buying trip so hope to be back next week with a look at what we found.

I am so happy to finally be launching my new site and I hope you will come over for a visit! As I mentioned earlier in the year, the Raised In Cotton blog will return back to everything related to running our  Vintage business.  Lots of things to share with you (exciting news too) regarding the shop.  This blog has some new features that explain more about how we got started and the vintage services that we offer.  Also in the future I will be sharing with you tips on running a shop like Raised In Cotton.  Once again, Thank You for the support on both of the blogs:)
