I have been buying and reselling antiques for 30 years since right out of high school. My family had an auction house and it was a given that I would come home and add a great treasure to my decor. In the early 1980’s when Country Home and Country Living were the bibles of decorating, I tried very hard to emulate their style. Mustard was something I not only put on my sandwich but the standard color I had to have in my home . Painted pantry boxes, dried flowers hanging from the rafters and general primitive clutter provided that homespun environment I was longing for. Fast forward to 2009 and the dark color palette has long since been replaced by a more simple atmosphere with the addition of fresh flowers. Even with my evolving decorating preference there are a few vintage staples that have transcended the years that I probably will always use:
1. A good basket made from wire or wood.
2. Old glass bottles and jars.
3. Vintage textiles.
5. Weathered wood anything .
What decorating staples have you used over the years that never go out of style? I would love to know:)
