Hello Thrifty Girlfriends! Based on the comments from the last post, you really love to shop those Thrift Stores! The photograph above is my latest treasure basket of goods from my local stores. I came home with a brand new Crate & Barrel linen tablecloth, a pair of floral blue tabbed top curtains and a J Crew winter scarf for my daughter. Spending a grand total of $11.00 and having a ball in the process. Isn’t that why we get excited when we hit the Thrift Stores? The anticipation of what we will find combined with a great price makes for a non guilty pleasure in these hard economic times.
As promised, here's a list of some helpful Thrifting Tips for you:)
*Try this link to search for Thrift Stores in your area, The Thrift Shopper just plug your city into the search box to get started.
* Contrary to popular belief, not all Thrift Stores are non profit. But many of the for profit Thrift Stores do share an alliance with charitable organizations. So you might want to check out their affiliations before shopping if that is an important consideration for you.
*Just like regular retail stores, Thrift Stores have sale days or clearance racks. Ask at your Thrift Store when their special sale events are. Most of the national Thrift Stores offer online newsletters or websites too.
* One of my very favorite spots in the Thrift Store is the linen aisle. There is always a large selection of curtains (I look for lace panels) tablecloths and even fabric that you can buy for a song. How easy to change out the look of your kitchen or dining room with a few inexpensive pieces.
*Location of your Thrift Store can be a factor too. There is a Goodwill store in my neighborhood that frequently receives home décor goods from Target that is just down the road from them.
*Don’t overlook something just because it is the wrong color. A can of spray paint or a box of Rit fabric dye can be the perfect tools to help repurpose a found treasure.
In the upcoming weeks, I will be doing a series of blog posts on creative projects with Thrift Store finds for you to try.
Also, next week I will have a feature interview with another incredible Scandinavian blogger that I think you will love.
Lastly a little Raised In Cotton Blog housekeeping, I have changed my comment section to a more interactive platform and went back to a basic white background so the text shows up better:)
Happy Weekend and Happy Thrifting:)
