As you can see from the above photo, we are now painting the inside of the farmhouse. After closer inspection, the walls were in bad need of some fresh paint. Of course I also wanted all the molding and trim work painted…..and some of the upstairs bedroom floors…….Oh, and why not get rid of the hideous popcorn ceiling in one of the bedrooms? You know how one thing leads to another when renovating. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about replacing this window with french doors to the outside area…….What do you think Mr PracticalPants? Ok, maybe on the next decade renovation list:) While we have been busy with my current renovation list, I have been searching and searching for the right light fixture for the entry hall to the farmhouse.
We have been very fortunate to have these vintage beauties already in place~
But then there is this one that is in the entry~
Good Gravy! I can’t change this one out fast enough. It is way too big for the space and too 80’s looking for me. It has a brass finish and not the good looking brass either. So this is where you my Dear Blog Friends come in. I need some help in picking out another chandelier. So here are some choices and if you feel none of these would work, let me know. All suggestions are Welcome.
First should I go with a chandelier with lovely crystals that would echo the rest of the fixtures in the farmhouse like these following choices?
#1 19th Century European regency empire crystal chandelier style. It has uniquely shaped rectangular crystals, faceted trim, and sculpted bobeches. Love the aged metal finish on this one. One of those impact lights
#2 Rustic oxidized metal with beautiful crystals and a center glass insert. This is slightly smaller then the above chandelier but more of a pendant feel which might be easier to work in the space I have by the stairs.
#3 Similar version of the above but has a carved glass bell. The combination of rust and glass always appeals to me.
Or, should I go with a simple white iron fixture like this one~
#4 Classic 6 arm chandelier. No crystals. I can see fresh Christmas greens gracing this one.
Lastly, what about just a traditional lantern style like these~
#5 Solid brass lantern featuring hand soldered seedy glass panels and delicate metal filigree work with a rich Roman Bronze finish. Understated feel .
#6 Lantern pendant with bronze finish and clear seedy honey glass. More ornate style then the classic lantern above.
Chandeliers 1-6 from Bellacor.
#7 19th Century Salerno Streetlight Pendant. Burnished bronze patina will grow richer with time. This is my idea of a stunning solid brass lantern. Designed by Mark Sage for Restoration Hardware. But it weighs 90 lbs!
I think a beautiful chandelier is so important as a first impression when entering any home. That is probably why it has taken me so long to decide on the perfect one. I would love to know your opinions.
